FROM TOMMY JOHN TO COLLEGE COMMITTED
What Brody Unck's Story Teaches Us About Development
βββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
When most people hear "Tommy John surgery," they hear a dead end.
Lost time. Lost velocity. Lost opportunities. For a lot of families, a TJ diagnosis feels like the moment the college baseball dream quietly closes.
Brody Unck's story is a different one.
Brody came to Pitching Development Systems as a late addition to our monthly programming β a Tommy John rehab case who still had real ability and a real desire to play at the next level. The window was narrow. There wasn't time for a long runway. What there was time for was getting him moving correctly, building his arm back the right way, and making sure that when the opportunity to showcase came, he was ready to perform on a moment's notice.
This week, Brody committed to Northeastern Junior College.
That keeps our commitment rate at 100% for the year β every athlete we have worked with in 2025 / 2026 who had college baseball as a goal has earned a spot at the next level.
I want to be transparent about what that means and what it doesn't.
It doesn't mean we have a magic formula that guarantees every pitcher gets recruited. What it means is that when athletes are committed to the process β when they trust the system, do the work, and stay ready β opportunities find them. Brody wasn't on anyone's radar when we started working together. By the time we were done, he was ready to be seen. That's what development does.

WHAT BRODY'S STORY ACTUALLY TEACHES US
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
There are three things his journey reinforced that I want every family reading this to understand.
1. It is never too late to get serious.
Brody was a late addition. The timeline was compressed. And it still worked β because the framework we used wasn't built around ideal conditions. It was built around the athlete in front of us. Evaluation first, prescription second. We identified what he needed, built around his specific situation, and moved efficiently.
2. Coming off injury does not mean starting over.
Tommy John recovery is one of the most mismanaged phases in a pitcher's development. Most programs either push too hard too fast or hold athletes back so long they lose momentum entirely. The right approach is objective β using tools like ArmCare to track arm strength in real time so decisions are based on data, not guesswork. That is exactly how we managed Brody's return.
3. College coaches want coachable, prepared athletes.
As Director of Pitching at Northeastern Junior College, I see this firsthand. The athletes who earn opportunities are not always the most talented. They are the ones who show up prepared, understand their own game, and can perform under pressure. That is what a real development system produces β not just physical ability, but the mental and tactical readiness to compete.

IF YOUR SON IS BEHIND β THIS IS FOR YOU
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
I work with a lot of families who feel like time is running out. The season is starting. Their son is coming off an injury. He's behind where they thought he'd be at this point. They're not sure what to do next.
Brody's story is proof that a compressed timeline with the right system behind it can still produce real results.
If your son needs a structured development plan β something that builds him up correctly, protects his arm, and gets him ready to perform β the 12-Week Pitcher Development Plan is available now.
It is fully remote. It runs through the Bridge Training App. It includes daily activation work, pre-throw correctives, a progressive throwing program, drill progressions, and post-throw arm care through ArmCare. Athletes anywhere in the country can use it.
I developed this due to a large outreach of families that did not have the time to train in person due to work, school or various other schedule conflicts as well as they were located in different states or far away enough they couldn't drive out to see me.
The investment is $499 β one time, no recurring fees for the program, and if you need any of the training gear we can help with discounts on that as well!

Congratulations to Brody and his family. The work you put in when nobody was watching is what made this possible.
